Albuquerque crushed Phoenix and Tucson in the 2021 City Nature Challenge. As of this moment (writing at 4:30 a.m. 5/5/21), we're at 10,255 observations made, 1,272 species, 341 observers, and 344 identifiers, smashing all our previous records. We're leading in all categories against Phoenix, and last I checked #22 in the global rankings! We'll follow up with official results after they come in on Monday, May 10th.
Above is Cylindropuntia viridiflora, a rare cactus from the Santa Fe area. This one is growing in the traffic circle in front of the BioPark Botanic Garden/Aquarium main entrance.
