As I type this late Saturday evening, the forecast looks like a windy Sunday afternoon and evening, cloudy with a slight chance of rain. Low temperatures may make it down to the upper 20's until Wednesday, but after that I see a warming trend with no sign of freezing temps.
Sure, the average date of last frost in Albuquerque is April 22; however, there's a 10% chance of hitting 32° even as far out as May 3rd.
By Thursday not only will it be warmer, but there should be a better chance of rain. We'll just cross our fingers and hope that we get rain in the valley and some white stuff to add to the snowpack in the high country.
Right now water managers in the Rio Grande Valley are predicting severe shortages of irrigation water this summer. There is even talk of not planting if possible. What this will do to the economy as we crawl our way (hopefully) out of the pandemic is anyone's guess. It certainly doesn't sound to encouraging.
