The Hail Storm

Memorial Day was... memorable.  It started out simply enough with Nature's Notebook observations in the CWG.  The difference was that this was the first Monday in ages that the Garden was open.  The parking lot was filling fast and there were lots and lots of visitors.

Afterwards, as clouds began to move in, Sheila and I met with Cecilia to see the new space for the herbarium out by the HDRG.  More on that tomorrow.

I headed home for lunch and a nap, but it was interrupted by thunder, lightning, rain, and then more rain, and wind, and then hail.  For an hour we got blasted.  2.3" of rain plus enough hail for hailballs and hailmen.

There was a certain amount of hail damage to the broad-leafed vegetation, but we will survive.
