City Nature Challenge & Brunch

Debbie is coming over for our first post-vaccine maskless get-together. There'll be hugs and real-live face-to-face conversation. Hurrah!

I've got the Belgian waffle batter rising under the power of a tablespoon of Canadian yeast. It quietly rises at cool room temperature over night and then gets a boost from baking powder and beaten eggs just before cooking. Incredibly light and fluffy.

Champagne and OJ are on standby for mimosas. Warm maple syrup and Irish butter is ready in the wings. Deb is bringing fresh fruit and cream. We'll load up the NO2-powered whipped cream cannister and be all set.

It may be a bit cool for brunch on the patio, but it'll be plenty warm enough for a garden tour. I even managed to bake a batch of pizzellas, most for our snacking (including tonight) and a handful for Deb.

City Nature Challenge ABQ invites everyone in Bernalillo, Sandoval, and Valencia counties to explore nature in and around your community and share your observations from April 30 to May 3, 2021.

It’s easy to participate! 1. Set up an account on iNaturalist.org; 2. Download the app on your mobile device; and 3. Take and submit your photos of animals and their signs (tracks, scat, feathers, etc.), plants, and fungi you find during the challenge. You can also submit your observations and photos via the iNaturalist.org website. Be part of the iNaturalist community and help identify others’ observations and have iNaturalist and its community help you!

City Nature Challenge is a global collaborative effort to find and document wildlife observations of all kinds (birds, insects, plants, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and more) on iNaturalist from April 30th to May 3rd, and help ID sightings through May 9th. Over 400 cities on 6 continents are participating in the 6th annual City Nature Challenge! City Nature Challenge and iNaturalist promote community science, in which all of us can participate in exploring and studying nature, and documenting urban biodiversity along with scientists.
