The Southeast Raised Bed

After two weeks of heavy work, we've got some semblance of a garden.  The big yellow groove bamboo is in place.  It's pot was formerly occupied by the black bamboo behind the fountain.  That bamboo is now in a shorter, wider red pot.  Our other black bamboo, the one that was almost killed by the cold 3 years ago is now in the short, wide grey pot to the left of the yellow groove.

At the other end of the bed is our black lace elderberry.  In the middle up on a stand is a smallish pot containing our pale blue Delphinium.  Salvias, Plumbagos, sweet flag, creeping Jenny, coronation yarrow, and silver sage make up the majority of the bed.

A plastic and plywood barrier plus an air gap protects the neighbor's new wall.  A wooden frame supports the bamboo screens that cover the cinderblocks.

I still have to set up the drip irrigation system, but that is relatively simple.  For now, we just have to water it well twice a day.  Temperatures are in the 70's and pushing past 80° now and then.  The humidity has been as low as 3% and is usually below 10%.

All in all, its a very pleasant early-stage garden.  It is a highly visible piece from anywhere in the backyard and is framed nicely out the east dining room window when the shades are up.
